Lane Bryant Ad – Marissa Pearlstein

Earlier in the semester we discussed the ad Lane Bryant tried to air and ABC and NBC rejected the ad saying it went against it’s nudity guidelines. I would be able to understand that if the guidelines applied to everybody. We see on television shows, not even just ads, the constant body showing of those who fit the criteria of what it’s like to be “beautiful”. Victoria’s Secret always has underwear ads that show the models bodies and no one bats an eye, they are thrown on the air and get TV time. Throw an ad where it shows a few curves, maybe a roll or two and it would be such a shame for those bigger women to think they were beautiful for 30 seconds. Media dictates a lot of things in our life, even what we find beautiful and what we don’t see as beautiful.
